Mid Week Message from Rev. Arlene
Did you dress in a costume this year for Halloween? Did your children or grandchildren? Why do so many people enjoy Halloween? This Halloween I had the opportunity to go trick or treating with my grandchildren in Ohio.
Besides it being a little cold for this Savannah person, it was a lot of fun. The costumes of all the children were amazing and everyone young and old had a blast.
Halloween is a fun holiday. It allows us once a year to put on the appearance of whomever we want and to be someone totally different than who we are. It is an opportunity for us to be more than who we are in our lives.
But the same is true for every day of our lives. Each day we can chose to be a better person – more loving, understanding, compassionate, kind – in other words to be an expression of Spirit in this world.
It may require us to remove the masks we wear in life to keep ourselves from being hurt or rejected, but then, and only then, can we be our authentic, amazing children of God. Pure Love fills us with the determination and courage to be who we truly are.
Quote of the Week – “Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within.” James Arthur Baldwin
Affirmation of the Week – Today I allow Love to remove the mask I hide behind.
