Who was Emma Curtis Hopkins?

Emma Curtis Hopkins (September 2, 1849 – April 8, 1925) was an American spiritual teacher, theologian, mystic, feminist, and prolific author. Often hailed as the “teacher of teachers” and even the “mother of New Thought,” she shaped thousands through her inspiring metaphysical teachings and ordained many trailblazers—including the founders of Unity Church, Divine Science, and Religious Science.
Originally a devoted student of Mary Baker Eddy and an editor of the Christian Science Journal, Hopkins eventually broke away to forge her own path. In Chicago, she established a theological seminary where she championed inclusivity, feminine leadership, and a spiritually progressive vision of the divine that transcended orthodox boundaries.
Her best-known works—High Mysticism and Scientific Christian Mental Practice—are now considered landmarks of metaphysical spirituality, blending mystical insight with practical spiritual instruction.
