Candlelight Observance and Memorial for Those Who Have Passed Away from Covid-19

This event is being streamed live beginning at 5:00 pm here on our website at www.unitysavannah.org/uos-live and simultaneously on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/UnitySavannah.

You are also welcome to attend in person in our courtyard.

Mayor Johnson and the city of Savannah are inviting houses of worship, businesses and individuals to join in a national memorial for the lives lost to COVID-19 on Tuesday, January 19.

Unity of Savannah is holding a socially distanced candlelight observance in our courtyard from 5:00-5:30 pm to express our unity, love and support during this time of crisis.

You are welcome to attend in person in our courtyard or attend online. Here’s how you can participate:

  • Bring a picture of the person you wish to honor who has passed away from Covid to the service. You can also email a picture to minister@unitysavannah.org.
  • We will have a table set up to display pictures and light a candle for your loved one.
  • We will ring a bell and have a moment of silence at 5:30 pm. If you are at home, you can ring a bell or light a candle at 5:30 and join us in silence.
  • Illuminate your home in red light on the evening of Tuesday, January 19.
  • Share this event on social media using the hashtags #SavannahRemembers, #SavannahStrong, #UnitySavannahRemembers.

Savannah’s memorial will coincide with ceremonies in Washington, D.C., that will include a lighting ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

The City Hall bells will ring at 5:30 pm and the building will be illuminated in red.
