Soul Food Sunday

In honor and celebration of Black History Month

Come together in Unity with your spiritual community on the last Sunday in February to honor and celebrate Black History Month.

11:00 AM: Music Service

The unique sound of the Spirit I AM Band, our Unity Savannah Music Team, is heavily influenced by blues, gospel, and soul music. Georgia Kyle Shiver and Rev. Dale Worley are sharing some of their favorite songs from these genres during this all-music service.

12:30 PM: Soul Food Potluck

Please bring your favorite soul food dish to share with your friends. If you don’t actually know what soul food is, or you don’t have your grandmother’s favorite recipe handy, consider picking up something from one of Savannah’s Black owned restaurants, such as:

1:30 PM: Movie – “Come Sunday”

Bishop Carlton Pearson

Each Sunday in February we are honoring the legacy of a Black New Thought Leader during our services. On this final Sunday of Black History Month, we shine the spotlight on Bishop Carlton Pearson. His amazing life story is the subject of the Netflix movie “Come Sunday” and we are showing this in the Sanctuary after the meal to round out our day of celebration.

Bishop Carlton Pearson was a former evangelical minister who began to preach what he called “The Gospel of Inclusion” after experiencing a crisis in faith (or perhaps more correctly a revelation) at the peak of his career in the fundamentalist church.

This movie is rated TV-14 for language and scenes involving suicide, so please keep in this mind when deciding to bring your children. See more at “Parent’s Guide to Come Sunday“.

Learn more about Bishop Pearson in the 2005 episode of "This American Life" entitled "Heretics".
