Opening Ceremony of the Tibetan Monks Sand Mandala

The Tibetan Monks of the Drepung Loseling Monastery begin the creation of a sand mandala with an opening ceremony on Tuesday evening, May 14, at the Telfair Museums in downtown Savannah.

The opening program includes sacred music and chants followed by the lamas (monks) drawing the mandala’s outline on a wooden platform.

Join your Unity friends at the Telfair Museums for this one-of-a-kind and inspiring spiritual event. Tickets are $20 and must be bought in advance.

On the following three days of the event, the lamas will create the mandala by painstakingly pouring the sand from traditional metal funnels called chak-purs. During this time you may view their work at the museum for free.
